2020 Fiat 500 X Review
That the Italians have a lock on design is a universally agreed upon fact. To see this in practice, one need only allow their eyes to trace the organically curvaceous lines of the Fiat 500X. You’ll be rewarded with a pleasant viewing experience. In fact, when seen head on, the Fiat actually looks like a smiling man with a mustache.
(Keep looking, you’ll see it...)
The look of the interior treatment is a delight as well. Yes, it’d be nice if the Fiat clothed it in better materials, but there is a price point to consider too. It could also be a bit more commodious, though it’s adequate for a couple or people with very young children.
Fiat went to a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for the 2019 model year, which improved the performance of the 500X significantly. Some 80 pounds lighter in weight and delivering 35 percent more torque (210 ft-lbs, up from 172), it’s a genuine blessing.
Along with the new engine came all-wheel drive, which gives the Fiat good soft-road potential. Don’t go looking to conquer rugged trails, but the 500X will competently go where many passenger cars cannot.
Around town, the Fiat 500X remains easy to maneuver and park. Plus, its newfound power makes it sprightlier when dashing from traffic signal to traffic signal. The same holds true on the highway, where you’ll appreciate its stability too.
All in all, the 2020 Fiat 500X is a distinctive little ride. Yes, the interior could be more capacious and a broader array of standard features would be welcomed as well.
Still though, I like it.
